Welcome to Golfer Stats Network

This is the Golfer Statistics Network , all things golf from the cloud.

Golfer Stats Network is a personal electronic caddie; tracking each rounds score and (optional) shot detail, providing results for an individual, a match, club or league. The application will also generate a handicap for each member.

The other golf related portions of the site will include an extensive searchable golf club database with course details, member reviews and photos. A golf equipment and accessory library again with member reviews. The site will include news, resources and social media connections from the golfing community. I would also like to include tournament feeds and results from the PGA and LPGA.

The idea for this project comes from my two passions and hobbies; playing golf and web application development. I thought this would be a good way to combine these passions and build something that others may find useful.

Golfer Stats Network Roadmap

The overall scope of the project is quite large, I am hopeful that others may like to contribute to this project. For now I have mapped out the big picture and broken it into chunks. I would like to have the basic application up and functioning in time for the 2012 golf season. What I mean is that members can track their rounds golf scores.

The following list is the major pieces of the project. I will add more detail about each section and massage the list as the project becomes flushed out.

Roadmap Details
  • Rough out a base site theme.(Currently in process)
  • Create the SQL databases and add sample data.(Currently in process)
  • Create the preliminary site and contact form. (What you are viewing)
  • Program the site around the test data. (Currently in process)
  • Build membership section.
  • Recruit test members.
  • Move site to a more permanent home utilizing one of the cloud service providers.
  • Program a section of the site to mine golf club data from Google Map API.
  • Populate the databases with golf club and member data.
  • Begin testing the basic application.
Longer term roadmap
  • Add social networking
  • Build club, league, and tournament tracking. (Second half of 2012)
  • Develop mobile applications. (Fall of 2012)
  • Create the equipment and accessories area.
  • More to come. Suggestions??

Project Development Details

The following list of technologies are planned to be used during the development of Golfer Stats Network. This list will change as the development process moves forward and the application is refined.

Web Development
  • Microsoft Web Developer 2010 R1 - ASP.NET MVC 3 using Razor
  • C# 4.0
  • HTML 5
  • Entity Framework
  • jQuery
  • jQuery-UI
  • SQL Server 2008 R2

Development tools for the mobile portion of the application haven't been selected as of yet. The current plan will be to develop a UI for each of major mobile devices.

  • Android, phone and tablet.
  • iOS, Iphone and Ipad
  • Windows Phone

I really haven't decided yet, but there is a chance that a desktop version would be developed. I believe the desktop version would provide a better interface with groups, leagues or tournaments.

  • Silverlight
  • WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation)

I have been wanting to build something using Silverlight so this may be a good opportunity. Feed back is welcome.
